“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” – Isaiah 5:20 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Ok, so I’m going to take the opportunity to voice a little “reason”. Some may or may not agree, but that’s alright as this is meant to get the juices of thought going.
Recently it was deemed that a certain religious group would be penalized for standing up for their doctrinal beliefs. Core beliefs that make up the organization’s backbone and identity. Now don’t get me wrong not every organization out there has rational or even humane beliefs, but nevertheless in this country we are granted the right to believe what we believe. And with those rights come “certain” protections…or at least should be.
Now this particular organization has beliefs I for one wouldn’t want or recommend others to adhere to, but again to each his own. The fact of the matter is that they believe what they believe. My voicing today is over the fact that they were penalized for their beliefs in a way that should bring pause for thought to many of us. I wrote the below story as an illustration of what I believe to be the “rationale” outcome that should have occurred;
Johnny wanted to join Sarah and Jodie’s club. Problem is that the club is a “girls only”. To be a little accommodating Sarah and Jodie decide to let Johnny join the club but let him know up front that within the club come certain rules to being a member and if Johnny wants to join he must abide by said rules otherwise he will have to leave the club. Sarah and Jodie state that every club member must sign a Contract which states that each member will abide by all rules. The rules are disclosed to Johnny prior to him signing, even giving him opportunity to read over the document, and to ask any questions prior to signing. Johnny agrees and readily signs.
A couple of weeks down the road Sarah and Jodie become aware that Johnny is unhappy with the club. Johnny states that “guy” activities should be included in the club. Sarah and Jodie explain to Johnny that what he is suggesting is in clear violation of the club rules. Sarah and Jodie soon discover that Johnny has been secretly discussing his displeasure with other members of the club and even outsides. It is even discovered that Johnny has been conducting activates that are in clear violation of club policies and core values. Sarah and Jodie conduct a meeting to hear Johnny’s side of the story, and to present the evidence that was brought to their attention regarding Johnny’s activities. After speaking with Johnny he admits to his activities and that he has no intention in changing his mind. Sarah and Jodie regretfully inform Johnny that he will not be permitted to continue being a member of the club.
Johnny, quite saddened by being kicked out becomes quite angry and decides that he wants others to weigh in on if Sarah and Jodie kicking him out was “fair”. He files a petition, and even starts a campaign to let others know about the events that unfolded and to garner sympathy. A committee is formed and Johnny, Sarah and Jodie are allowed to tell their sides. They are even allowed to bring evidence and witnesses. After the committee hears and reviews all the facts they announce their thoughts. They explain to Johnny that though they understand he feels that certain activities should be included in Sarah and Jodie’s club, that the club was in fact theirs. With the club being theirs they were allowed to set the rules for membership. It was brought to Johnny’s attention that Sarah and Jodie even had a contract (which he signed) each member is required to review AND sign prior to being granted membership. They explain that with his signature he fully understood AND accepted Sarah and Jodie’s rules and with that Sarah and Jodie had every right to revoke his membership due to violation of his “signed” agreement. For a word of advice, the committee suggests that in the future Johnny look for clubs that have more of the guy activities he suggested be part of the club.
Johnny takes the matter to heart and in fact does decide to start his own club. After awhile Johnny, Sarah and Jodie become friends once again and even share stories of all the fun and exciting activities each of the clubs enjoy.
Ok, so in the above we have, in MY opinion, a clear and expected outcome. Johnny signed a contract. A contract that clearly spelled out his obligations to remain a member. Johnny didn’t follow the rules so Johnny was made to leave.
Again, my opinion. I look forward to getting your thoughts. 🙂
Be Forever Blessed,
